alright Belated New Year's ride 54.32 mi 03:46 14.4mph pace

So work commitments and irregular sleeping patterns kept me from doing an actual new year's day ride. Woke up at 2 a.m. with the sorest of throats. But quarts of theraflu later, decided it was... read more

Thank you my friends for the well wishes! I am okay'd for low level rides every week or so. A much different world, but I am grateful that my recovery has come as far as it has. Just trying to remember to keep the rubber side down.

@Karen L....thanks for the continued support. I guess I need to add that for me, riding had always been a mental escape to let my brain rest and wander as it may. group riding and group riding on bike paths requires being in the midst of folks and a far change from my nomadic biking existence. not bad or good. just weirdly different for me. my legs are happy. my brain is still looking for its equanimity.

I understand the brain rest thing- I get so wrapped into the elliptical dance that I get "lost". I too, am a solitary rider. The couple of times that I have riden with another person has been real mental work, a completely different experience. A group ride would probably exhaust me.

Great pace for a ride in weather like that and especially since you have not been riding a lot lately.
I guess, being a randonneur myself I do get that bit about resting the mind as the legs move. You'll get there again.

Ponyo, your limited ride is big for most other riders. Sooooo glad to see you on 2 wheels again. I like my hot chocolate with a dash of peppermint schnapps. BTW, we hit 39 today-after 4 inches of snowfall.

  8. RUN
another run in the dark. 5.7 mi 01:12 12:37 pace

found a teeny tiny headlamp but also had a blinking red light for my arm and wore my rando reflect-o vest so felt pretty safe except from when i heard crunching in the leaves in a ditch.

  9. RUN
alright in circles getting lost 5.2 mi 01:05 12:30 pace

felt my stride was stronger. the last hill seemed extra steep. dang city keeps shutting down street lights, so night running is becoming not only dangerous, but confusing.

    • Gabriele P.

I would recommend a head lamp which might at least help with the danger part (as I learned myself when I forgot to take mine out). It does not really help against getting lost, though

A sextant is an old nautical device for determing the location of the stars as they relate to the angle above the horizon versus time. You're welcome :)

Be careful Ponyo! You don't want to trip over something and fall. I do a lot of running in the dark here in Alaska and it's a whole different ball game, isn't it?

@Gabriele-depends on the class. Flow can pack them in upwards of 30. The renew class is usually 12-18. A class of four sounds fantastic.
