Holy crap, where have I been!? Sorry I haven't been very active on here lately. Wow, I'm sorry about your IT thing. That sucks. I wonder what causes that? I saw where you went swimming. That should be good exercise. I would definitely need lessons before I tried to swim laps, lol.

you could also get a rubber band and do some strengthening exercises... my it band flares with too much speed work, so i am careful not to overdo it. the bike should help, but again stretching is the key ... right now it probably seems worse than it actually is... ease yourself back into it ... you'll be back in no time

Seems like the stretching brough out more soreness...is this normal? I also have a little pain in the front of the hip, I guess that could be referred pain though. I am too doom and gloom about my training at times. Hopefully I will get more info from the PT when I visit. I am afraid road biking will further injure it, so I may do stationary at the gym for a while.

not sure about soreness after stretching though, i think you might be overstretching... all that is needed in a stretch is to feel it... if it hurts you, it's too much.... i think stop for a day or two.. then start when the soreness has gone... using the roller can be painful but that is meant to happen... you're going to be fine phil... you just have to get used to new a routine.. seriuosly, i know it seems bad now. in a week you'll notice the difference...

I had that same IT band issue. Do foam roller every day, and I'd be really really surprised if it didn't clear up. It will hurt, so don't load all your weight on it for the first few times.

Philip - sounds like it might be issues relating to the Illiotibial bands though I would get a correct diagnosis from a good physio / chiropractitioner. There are exercises to help with this. I had chronic problems last year / early this year but through proper stretching and regular use of a foam roller (every runner should have one) i have got myself back into good shape. Also investigate glucosamine sulphate to provide lubrication to help with the knee pain. Roll Philip roll :)

you've beeen training hard. listen to your body philip. take a few days off and let your body recover. you won't lose any fitness if you take 3-7 days off. in fact, you're body will benefit and you'll come back feeling much stronger.
