Nice easy run with Andrew E. We were going to go to the harbour bridge, but the traffic-light gods suggested a different route.
Looked like rain, but never happened. A bit breezy, but not as much as yesterday.
Achilles started to feel tight at about 10km. Pain scale 1.5/10 and that's okay.
Lots of runners out. All very jolly. http://maps.google.com/?q=http://share.abvio.com/4df8/7197/4cb5/61b3/Runmeter-Run-20121015-0805.kml.

Nice work. I hope join y'all on Wed.

Great run. I can imagine you both were out there grinning the whole time!

I was grinning ... Andrew had a long run yesterday, so I'm not so sure he was as happy as I.

Nice smiley run, didn't see many of the jolly runners yesterday, though there were some! Are you massaging the achilles often? I've been massaging mine with Voltarin Emulgel as well as stretching, seems to be quite effacacious. (More of a preventative measure, just get the odd bit of tightness after a long run.)

Graham, I'm seeing a really helpful specialist in Sports Medicine (Lucy) who studied under the famous Tim Noakes (of the Runner's Bible fame). I'm on rehab exercises (not too many ... I was over doing it) and glyceryl trinitrate. She gave me a very helpful explanation of what was happening with my Achilles, what would work and the levels of intervention that can be tried. I'm really happy with my progress (and I've ditched the Emulgel).

Sounds like a good programme, and I certainly don't mean to distract you from it. I did my Achilles several years ago in a Round the Bays sidestepping plodders (which is why I start at the front now). I saw specialists then who sorted my shoes (for pronation, had custom orthotics for a while), & a stretching, massage & exercise rehab programme. The big take-away for me was right stretching & the massage technique to improve blood flow & speed healing. So really just sharing my experiences.

And thanks for telling me about it. It certainly helps when they explain the physiology of your condition (it did for me anyway). BTW, the Emulgel is something I only tried recently because I had some! Not sure that it makes that much difference, but maybe a little..

Sorry Graham, I didn't intend to downplay your advice ... it's always welcome :) Shucks, that's one of the points of DM isn't it.

My physio started me on Emulgel for my Achilles ... but I think he said it's more palliative than actually helping with the healing.

Loving the point scale inclusion on your pain readings.. I do that myself :) bet the average person would have judged your pain up near 8.. Only the endurance athlete underplays pain, every other sports overplays it.

I think think the act of rubbing it in is of more value than the Emulgel itself, a bit like the milk on the rice bubbles!! Lol.

Yum. Rice bubbles.
