This is just my second workout since my time off. I started off the first kilometer much slower and I felt much better later in the run. I am still getting back into the swing of things. Hopefully I will be where I want to be when the 1/2 Marathon g... read more

Baby is doing good. She does not have colic like her sister did, but she does get fussy sometimes.

  2. goodFriday - Powdermill 7 km / 00:41 09:20 pace

This is my first workout since Thanksgiving Day. We had a new addition to the family so I had planned on some time off. I kept telling myself, if nothing else, get started back on Jan 1st, so that is what I did. I tried to run at a decent pace witho... read more

Actually things are going well. Maggie is sleeping a lot better than our first one did. Last night was rough cause I am sick and LeighAnn ended up on the couch. No fun. But the baby is sleeping a good 3 to 5 hours at a time.

A new personal best! One year ago today was my first ever race as an adult. It was this same Turkey Trot. I was looking forward all year to get another crack at this race. Last year I ran it in 27:42 and my goal this year was 25. Talking with Devi... read more

Nope. My wife LeighAnn just had a baby. She will be out of the hospital tomorrow. I have been staying with her and helping her get in and out of bed. She had a C section.

  5. greatMonday - Powdermill Rd 4.34 mi / 00:40 09:17 pace

This week I have the 5k Turkey Trot. I thought I would mellow out and take Grace for a run. Those hills sure are fun when you have a 35.9 lb kid in the Jeep stroller. We bought the Jeep stroller because of the big oversized tires (kinda like my Rubi... read more

wow...that's a pretty high heart rate. Is that usual for you? Or do you think it was because of your sickness and hard workout combination? All I know is if I get to 170, I'm feeling pretty nasty. That might be why you felt sick to your stomach. I usually feel sick with any heart rate over 170 and you averaged 177!

    • Gordon T. Gordon T.

My Garmin shows that my heart rate is usually higher than most people weather I am working hard or doing an easy workout. I have been wanting to try a different heart rate monitor to see if it is my monitor that is the difference.

My resting heart rate is pretty good (under 60), but when I start to move around it will jump pretty quick. When I am done working out, it will drop pretty quick too. It has been going down over the past year as I have been getting in better and better condition.

We can meet up and you can borrow my heart rate monitor, it's really good. I would still check with your doctor about that, that's really high...I don't want to scare you, but I'd be concerned. Mine drops pretty quick too, and I also have a higher than average heart rate, and always have, but I still make sure mine doesn't go above 165, if it does, I slow down until it gets to at the most 160. Plus, it never hurts to go to the doctor and get a physical.

I know, I know. I am actually in pretty good shape tough (for me). I have tapered off since my last Triathlon (by design). But I plan on running today and through the weekend. My goal is a new PR at 25 minutes. We will see.

Easy run. Nice and cool. I wanted to do a light run at around a 9:09 pace, but ended up pushing a little harder than that. I am still learning what different paces feel like so no biggy. Good run.
