BJJ hurts. But after two months on the mat, things are starting to click. Plus my stamina's starting to build up. Normal nights I'll get 2 or 3 rolls with 1 or 2 partners. Tonight I got 6 rolls wit... read more

Ouch. I hurt. That's all I have to say on that.

Good and gassed now. Rolled with a blue belt and did not get submitted so I'm happy with that. Rolled with a kid half my weight... Tried to give him a fighting chance while still making it a workou... read more

Still fun despite the pain. :) Learned a few new techniques tonight... Most of which I'm not flexible to pull off without help. On the plus side, almost had one of the blue belts in a rear naked ch... read more

Good night. Rolled with a couple of blue belts. Still use my weight and strength too much, but with these two really got a chance to work technique... Good stuff.

I am not used to being the small guy. Rolled a couple of times with Josh Feldman (http://www.greatbridgewrestlingclub.com/staff.html). Damn! I hurt after that. Time to go grab a beer.

Somehow I missed that you train BJJ too, awesome! It's a lot of work rolling with bigger people, especially for over an hour. Nicely done.

Agreed! The core strength I've gotten from it really helps the long distance running, I don't even feel my hydration pack anymore.

Another fun night on the mat. Got a couple of good rolls (spars). Had a young kid (14yo) ask to roll... He is quite literally half my weight. Even so he put up a hell of a fight. Kid will be unbeli... read more

Another hard workout on the mat. My shoulders are sore and my elbows hurt, but hot damn I had some fun.

I've heard that BJJ is tough on the knees—the positions you have to be able to get into to maintain guard puts stress in different angles than what we're normally accustomed to. Have you found that?
As much as I think I'd dig it, I shy away because: as a musician, I'm terrified of wristlocks. And I'm also afraid of being the sweaty guy no one wants to have to grapple with....

I'm only a few weeks (6 classes) in but so far, no trouble with my knees... Now my elbows are a different story but that's mostly cause I don't tap until the other guy really tightens the submission... Otherwise there's always the chance of an escape. :) And we're all pretty sweaty, so no trouble there. I'm usually sweating buckets by the end of the warm up.

Ha! Man, I'd be tappin' like Ben Vereen for everything! Someone looks at me all serious? Tap tap tap. LOL
Jokes aside, that's awesome. You're definitely getting me thinking about joining a gym again. I did muay thai for a while and loved it.
