great Wineglass Marathon 26.2 mi 03:37 08:17 pace

A PR!!! I seriously do not know how I pulled this off. As you know, I've been complaining about working too much, not getting my miles in, no speed work, no hills work. I had no plan for this race. I was just going to play it by ear and make this a training run for Stonemill 50 miler.
I lined up with the 3:45 pace group. What the hell, why not. We started and the next thing I knew I was with the 3:40 pace group. Otto, who is now my pace god, was the leader of the group. Seemed like he was just jogging and everyone around him was jogging, it looked easy. I thought to myself, let just hang out with Otto. I normally don't like to run in large groups but it felt good. I kid you not, next thing I knew it was mile 20 and I'm still with the 3:40 group! I was feeling great.
At mile 21, Otto started to tell the group to start to pick it up if they wanted to sub 3:40. He was encouraging everyone to go. In my head, I thought we were all going to finish together, hug it out, take a group photo at the end. I really became attached to this group. Otto yelled to run! I hesitated for a good minute, trying to decide what to do. I came to just have fun, not get a PR. What should I do? And like Otto said, I went for it!
The last 5 miles I dropped down to an 8 minute pace. I caught Jeff D. at about mile 23, which not a good sight. He was going for a BQ. I ran up next to him, not sure what kind of mood he was going to be in. He was so excited to see me. "Hey Patty!" So that was a good sign. I told him "i'm kinda on pace to get my personal best" He just said, "well then go!!" And I took off again.
With about a mile and half left, I heard someone yell "come on Patty." That SOB Jeff D. caught up with me! ;) He found some energy and we pushed it in together!
It was a great race. Pacing really does help!
