Fist drills are great drills! I also love the finger drag: When your hand comes out of the water, keep your fingers touching the water surface all the way until the hand goes back into the water. It will make you raise the elbow, exactly what we want :-)

Glad you got to finish, but it sucks that they shut the race down. Both relays I've done, they've discussed shutting down (due to excess heat) but decided that the logistics of finding all the runners over 150 miles of trails would be too difficult. And knowing that us runners are a stubborn lot, it probably wouldn't deter most teams anyway.

Than we must swim the same way Helene, in fact you are probably better at it than I am. Now I have to start thinking of an imaginary bar. I never heard of that one before. And for the record, I'm not a crazy beast. At least, not the beast part.

Well, I see it like the gymnasts at the asymmetric bar, when they turn around the highest bar. Helps me picture the movement, but I always end up on the side, have to twist my body back into position while pushing the wall. Not good :-)

Thanks Jenn! Glad you liked it. I'll look for the package in the mail Morey :-) and Vern I usually almost always wear a hat of some kind. In the winter/colder weather it's a beanie, but in the summer I wear a baseball cap. It's so good to wet it down in a sprinkler I pass to cool my head, shades my eyes, I can use it to shield against gnats, and yes...keep my eyes a bit dryer in the rain. But today was just a bit too cool for the ball cap. But the warmer weather is coming!!

Firstly- I get 10 kudos points. Secondly, it's typical that fit people who have pushed their HR up there, are more likely to be able to. i.e. the the 220-age formula doesn't work. If you got your HR up to 185 for any length of time. Then your max is likely well over 190.

A max test is tough- but have fun. What is more useful is to base everything off of a Lactate Threshold test. Just run a 10-15Km race with a HR monitor, and you've got your data. I've never been able to get close in a training run.
