injured I-Challenge Part II - Illinois Marathon 2011 26.46 mi 05:35 12:39 pace

Injured from mile 10 on. Full write-up to come, but I'm still deciding if it was wise for me to finish this race or not. But I just couldn't quit. So I got my 3 medals for the weekend.

Yes, this is my Personal Worst. I was expecting that due to my lack of preparation. I was NEVER expecting it to take over five and a half hours. EVER. It's going to be tough to find the bright side of this race. But I will.

(I don't think 185 is a true max HR, but haven't looked at the chart yet.)

If it helps, that would probably be a personal best time for me, even with training! Hope that your body mends quickly and that you find a bright side :).

Damn. So sorry it went down like that. I hope you heal up quick! Congrats on finishing, in spite of your injury - that takes a lot of grit.

i did get a laugh out of the fact that Amy's marathon time in last year's swelter was faster than this, but I do appreciate the fact that even this slow is other people's 'fast,' and I'm lucky to be able to ambulate at all.

Also, the 185 is probably accurate - I had a 180-ish spike early probably due to some static on the HRM strap, but the 185 was from my kick at the end. The spirit was willing, but the flesh (and tendons/ligaments) was weak.

Thanks Bobbi. Two bad-weather marathons last year made me think I'd tested my mettle. But yeah, this one even took more grit than those. This one was completed on sheer stubbornness and stupidity.

Recovery is going better than expected, though still sore. My muscles never really got tested, so they're in pretty good shape, and the bad foot is responding well to RICE.
