20 LSD - Sauc 2 - I've run in some $#!t. This was the $#!ttiest $#!t that's ever $#@t on me for 20 miles straight. This run was entirely dictated by the wind - the route, the pace, the route again. Luckily the roads were pretty slush-free until the end... read more

Great job! Never done a Yasso workout - but to my memory this indicates you're aiming for a 3:45 marathon??

Thank you, all. Always amazing how yesterday can suck so hard and today can go great (or vice versa). I'm STILL on a high from these, and my legs have felt pretty good all day.
Jordan, that's the idea. I did a bit of a write-up with a Garmin twist here: http://ratula.net/eblo/archives/000478.html
That said, I'm running with a buddy in my next race and the common goal is 3:55. The 3:45 Yassos just give me extra cushion/confidence.

4 Easy - Sauc 2 - Sometimes the "Easy" runs are harder to push through than the long runs or hill runs. THAT is irony. Calves and FEET still stiff/SORE from Sunday's 18. That said, still couldn't slow the first mile down. Wanted to run the do... read more

Nice run today and good luck on the Yassos tomorrow!

dude, I hear you on the easy runs sometimes being harder than the long or "hard" runs! I switched Monday's recovery run to Thursday because I was pretty sure I wasn't going to be able to deal with it (more of a mental thing than anything) and yet yesterday's intervals were A-OK! WEIRD how training works sometimes!

As someone elsewhere said, we need the crummy ("shitty" doesn't work well here - or works too well) runs to remind us how good the great runs are. I used to think of my Tuesday/Friday "Easy" runs as warm-up or lead-in to the Wednesday/Weekend hard work, but I'm starting to flip that. They're more of a 'reset' after the previous ass-kick.

Mark-Oblivion ran 18.39 miles in 2 hours and 59 mins alright18 Mile Ill LSD – 18.39 mi / 02:59 09:44 pace
18 LSD - Sauc 2 - UGH!!! Ran this one fighting off a cold and losing. The first 3 miles were tough on my legs though I had a hard time reigning my pace in. Eventually, after nearly being run down by a churchgoer leaving service, I settled in. Things we... read more

You do realize that the only person keeping records is yourself, so you could have tweaked the books, no? Those church-goers can be really dangerous leaving parking lots... though I tend to be heavy on the accelerator leaving a church parking lot, so I can't say I blame them... I've nearly lost a life to them more than once. Run looks good on paper, despite your own opinions of it!

Nice long run! It was fun to read along with you, felt like I was there! Sorry about the obstacles and your sickness and hopefully we can run with you someday!

MJ, Yes, I know, but I'm such a data geek that if it's not in the watch, it didn't happen. That's, honestly, one of the reasons I don't like the treadmill - no distance data.
Thanks, Anne. I'm sure our paths will cross at some point!

Pretty damn impressive performance based on the circumstances! 18+ miles at the pace we talked about running (before you started feeling ill). I'm looking forward to putting in a long run with you sometime soon. And, I totally understand the "if it's not in the watch, it didn't happen" mentality as well. I "had" to run an extra mile on one of my weekday runs, since I hadn't noticed there was no satellite lock for the first ~10 minutes.

Easy 3 with Stoli - Sauc 1 - First of all, "Negative Split" is not a concept a Labrador understands. I tried to reign her in on the first mile, but it wasn't worth the effort. She's a good runner, though. I need to get her out more. Secondly,... read more

Mark-Oblivion ran 9 miles in 1 hour and 21 mins good7 @ MP +2 – 9 mi / 01:22 09:03 pace
7 @ MP - Sauc 1 - After a slow, creaky start, I kicked the ever-lovin' crap out of this pace run. Not only were the 7 miles below marathon pace, but the overall pace was, too. And, of course, the half splits are negative. In fact all but the middle tur... read more

3xMile Repeats - 8 Total - Sauc 1 - Tough run. weather was nice! 40s, light rain, light, but manageable wind, more fog. I should have rocked shorts, but habit had me out the door in my pants before I realized how nice it was. The workout was 2 Warmup,... read more

Great job! I've only done mile repeats once before, but I loved them! They're long enough to feel "meaningful" (400s and 800s seem too short) and also allows the pace to be a little slower than the shorter "sprints". Also, it looks like you averaged 8:25 on the repeats... *exactly* the mid-point of the goal range. Enjoy the rest day... you've earned it.

Totally agree, Marty! My half training plan had mile interval training every other week... my favorite runs of all... keeps things interesting, particularly when I was running on the track and things were otherwise dreadfully boring. Enjoy tomorrow's rest!

They're really not my favorite workouts. I prefer a basic Hill Run (not the repeats) for feeling badass or Yasso800s for really killing myself. But I do them, because my plan tells me to.

I can't believe you did 20 in this garbage today. That is seriously impressive!
about 13 hours agoI found it uncomfortable to walk from my car into the mall b/c of the snow stinging me in the face. I have no idea how you did this. But congrats on doing so. I don't think that you will have worse weather to get through before or during the marathon, so I'd say you are set.
