A cake batter ice cream cone fueled me through one of the best runs that I've had on months. 10 miles @ 7:35 pace. Plan was to just do 7-8, but I was feeling good and running smoothly on the hills, so I decided to make it an even 10. To top it off, this put my weekly mileage above 30 for the first time since Disney - finally getting my groove back!

What's the name of that ice cream brand? I'll need it for the Boston 5K. Great job, Pete. Glad you're getting back in the groove.

Ice cream...hmm...how long before you ran did you eat that? You are making me rethink my ice cream fast LOL! Good job!

Love cake batter ice cream. I'm a strong believer that real foods with a good dose of sugar (ice cream, cookies, etc.) are far superior to Gu and stuff like that for running fuel.

Kristen - I tend to agree about the real foods being better, and ice cream tastes a heckuva lot better than GU!
Lashonda - went to a local ice cream shop with my wife and kids, and they dropped me off on the way home so I could run. So, maybe about 15 minutes beforehand?

Did you cramp at all?
almost 2 years ago • Like
No, I generally don't have cramping issues related to eating before a run. However, I know some people who need to eat well before they run or it causes problems. Guess I'm lucky in that!

I love that kind of fuel! I ran my best mile after eating a bowl of caramel corn before heading out the door!
Just found your blog with the Garmin reviews-very helpful!
