I had a great day! The time doesn't reflect the race for me; I had to stop for a comfort break and chose the wrong one to stop at, but having committed to the stop, stayed, and it took about 10 minutes. I also caught up to one of the girls I started with and stayed with her until the last half mile to keep her (and myself) motivated. I ran this race in 2010 and it was hell. The hills took me out and I struggled from mile 8 onwards, so with less training I thought I was going to be in for a hard day. I ran with some friends that worked on a run/walk schedule of 4/1, figuring that this was the sensible thing to do with not a lot of training under my belt and I was amazed at how well I got through the hills and how well I finished. I have to credit this to a year with the cycle team! Cycling Centuries are endurance events that test your mental strength as well as physical strength and this was what made today so much fun. If I could spend 9 hours on a bike, I could get through three hours of running. It has taken me a couple of days to be able to walk properly again, but I am ready to start on the next race with a couple of major changes......1. Start training now and 2. Use the bike more aggressively as a training tool. I'm inspired :)
