This was definitely a fun new experience! I ran it with Dan M. , well, walk it - there was way too much mud to really try to run the course. There were a few obstacles, but mostly mud, ankle to waist deep mud. I have mud in places there should be no mud, especially after the long steep mud slide at the end.
Some of the obstacles on the website weren't on the course, but I still got to jump over fire. Hooray! The fire jumping was the easy part. The most difficult mentally was the balance beam; I didn't think I would have a problem, but when I got up the ramp and saw 1.the height 2. that the beam angled downward 3. beam was encrusted in slippery mud 4. my shoes were also encrusted with mud - I almost got off and gave up. I just stood there and took a few breaths, and slooowly slid my feet on the beam. It wasn't so bad; I kept my balance and made it through to the other side. I apologized to the kind guy behind me for holding him up and thanked him for the encouragement, then I was off to wade in more mud.
After that I never had a problem with the other obstacles which ended up being much higher and much more muddier. I absolutely loooved the rope climbs over a walls, those ended up to be my favorites.
I'm pretty happy that I never fell once, I slipped a lot in the mud, but was always able to catch myself from falling face first. So no warrior wounds except a nice sun burn.

sounds like a blast

sounds like a crazy fun day! I'm doing the Spartan race later in the summer, so your post got me looking forward to it (though I'm sure I'll fall at least once).

Good for you. I fell three times. Glad you and Dan both got out there to have some fun. I think a mud race per year is good for the inner kid.

Mimi, it totally did! I've done a lot of similar stuff at CF and it really did help me prepare, tho maybe not for the mud.
