  1. Ran the Owls Roost 1/2 marathon y'day. Finished in the top 1/3 of my age group, which is probably about right. I'm not a strong trail racer. I never really had it yesterday in the legs, but it w... read more

  3. I question these Marathon projection charts. I just ran a 5K in better than 21 minutes and the prediction would be me doing a 3:20 for a marathon. Frankly, I'd be pleasantly surprised with a 3:40 ... read more

Nick - I can run a 5k at about 22 min, and the marathon prediction is about 3:36. Using my half marathon pace, the prediction is about 3:33. I THINK I might be able to do that, if I trained properly; but, Jamie and I ran Richmond, with a goal of about 3:30, and we missed it by about 20 minutes. It did get pretty warm, however. I think of those calculators as the best case prediction - what we're CAPABLE of doing. I would need IDEAL conditions (COLD!), but I think I could do it!

      Marine Corps in November!

Silly question but is Marine Corps a BQ race? I was looking briefly on the Boston website and couldn't find anywhere which marathons count as I doubt its all but maybe it is...again I'm showing my ignorance as I've never thought about BQ till this year--as a 3:20 gets me in--which is going to be tough.

Isn't the criteria a "road race of america" race or something like that? I'm 99% certain it is.

I ran it way back in 94 or 95... in like a 3:08 which qualified me back then. For 2010 I need 3:30.

That's such a challenge for me!

Sounds good. I'm probably overthinking it that it had to be a timed chip race, etc. Any information you come across would be great--especially I am more and more thinking of making a run (no pun intended) at BQ.

  8. 800s & 400s. The Flying Pig schedule has these Yasso 800s. I started them a few weeks early and now I'm peppering the 800s with 400s. Doing them on the treadmill... walking as few as 2 minut... read more

I'm doing the "short course" or the Black Mountain marathon. The folks doing the 40 mile challenge are always happy to remind you of their fond name for 26.2 up & down Black Mountain. This is my 2nd time. first one didn't go so well.

I was on the treadmill. did the old hop off & onto the rails routine. Started the 800s at 9.1 & go up a bit... started the 400s at 10.0 even & would move up a bit.

Assumes that you can run your 10K goal pace for one mile and then you can recover with a slightly slower pace.

I'd like to do this along with my Wednesday morning repeats. Wednesdays are basically 1/2 mile repeats with a 2:30 recovery. I'll walk or do whatever it takes to get my pulse down below 130bpm. Fridays are a pretty cool treadmill workout Tara and I have been doing. I'll write that up sometime also.
