Due to procrastination I had to run this in the dark and 10-20 mph winds. I was challenged by Caleb M.'s article on the dailymile blog about running for time. I ran 16 in 2:23 on Monday, and I want to run a 4:00 marathon. So according to the blog, I need to train myself to run for 4:00. I shouldn't be too concerned with the distance, just the time on my feet. So today, my goal was 2:50 minutes on the road. Well old habits are hard to break, and I was watching my pace as well. I kept the miles under 9:00 for the most part until the last 3 miles. Then I slipped up to 9:09 for a couple. My last mile was truly just time on my feet. Slower than the others, but it helped my round out my time. I did tack on one more minute to even out the mile. 38*, 10-20 mph winds, new longest training run, and new longest training week (and I only got 3 runs in). Over all felt pretty good. The winds helped to distract me from how my legs were feeling. Tomorrow is a rest day. I hope you all have a great Sabbath. Great training Tom! I couldn't imagine running that long in the cold dark. My longest night run so far is around 8 miles back in the summer.

Hey, good news is I'd say you can run faster than 4:00 with a long run like this. Think more on the lines of 3:45 from now on!

Thanks everyone for you encouragement. @Caleb, I think you have more faith in me than I do, but then again, you are the teacher, so 3:45 it is.

That's a great training run Tom. When I went under 4, I ran a 30k race in 2:45 4 weeks before the marathon. About the same as you just did in training. I'd say you're well on your way to a good race.
