Had to abort this and turn back just after Hauraki Corner as it started to rain really bad and I got a scare. I honestly don't know how I managed to not drop the bike, I skidded really badly and somehow unclipped and got my foot out, skidding a bit on my cleat and then stopping. That put a dampener on the ride so I stopped to compose myself and then turned back and retraced my steps. Bugger!

Sounds like a wise choice Chris, you can always go and ride it another day......

Bugger! I hate riding in the rain and still get really scared. Even in the olympic tri girls were falling off their bikes on the wet roads. I reckon you made a really smart move aborting. It looks like you had some fantastic speed before that though!

Sounds like the wise choice, Chris - especially given that you had a scare and were rattled a bit. Better luck next ride - glad you weren't hurt.

Bad luck about the skid. Just started raining is the clue, the slightest drop of oil will spread before it washes away with more rain, so that is the most treacherous time. In race cars we put 'wets' on! The contact patch on a high performance bike tyre is absolutely minimal, thats the whole idea. Again, in a car we would slightly reduce tyre pressure for the wet to improve the contact patch.
