So why can't the Portland Marathon clean up after themselves ?? This happened last year in the same place I sent them an email, spoke to someone, went back a week later nothing was done to clean up the area. This same thing ??

This year I sent them an email to alert them of this problem area and them sent these pictures and more emails but to no avail. Does anybody know a good email address to the Portland Marathon to get an response ??

Mike - I just posted a note to the FB page complaining of the same thing. Willamette is trashed. I'm not sure which area you are referring to, but I really feel it is inexcusable for the race not to clean up on race day. It just doesn't make any sense. If you leave that stuff for a couple of days the wind is going to blow it all over the place making it that much harder to collect.

The race director is Les Smith and I just found his work email and shot off an email with pictures and the original email I sent to the PM. This area is at mile post 23 at the bottom of Greeley. If I do not hear back by this afternoon then I am contacting a couple news channels !!!

Mike - I think that's a great idea. They really should clean up right after the race, when the roads are still closed and volunteers could easily walk along the course without fear of being hit by a car.

Koin 6 just answered my email wanting pictures and the location to investigate. Hopefully something will come from this. I also mentioned that you saw similar thrash on Willamette Dr.

Mike looks like your going to have to make it a community cleanup campaign too show them the problem of this litter otherwise it will continue year after year!!

Too bad the only press the marathon is going to get is bad. The news hardly bothers to cover the positive aspects.

Brianna - the Portland Marathon is an awesome event, it has a wonderful history, and does a lot as a private event to help a lot of charities !! There is a lot of well-deserved attention paid to Portland and the Marathon. However I love this city and everything it stands for, the Marathon and it committees routinely miss this very important step. I am reaching out so they take better care of our city. They really dropped the ball last year and I offered my time to help clean up, nothing.

This year I sent several emails to two different emails, nothing. Is there something else that I should do ?? Am I out of line with this ??

Sorry - was out for a few days so I failed to keep up with this. Did anything happen? Is the junk cleaned up yet? I don't think you are out of line. I think it is perfectly acceptable to bring it to their attention and if they don't do something about it then to bring it to someone else's attention. All races should clean up after themselves.

Nothing has happened. No response from the marathon or channel 6. I think something is askew with the marathon for just ignoring me. I am going to look at getting more involved and see what I can do maybe they just need more people.
