11:41 PM (Tuesday) Not my best day: Last night got stomach sick so couldn't go to sleep until 3:00am, I was supposed to wake up at 5:00am to catch a flight at 7:00am from Guatemala City to Houston and then DC, slept in and got to the airport late and they didn't allow us to check in, I was with a colleague so I apologized several times because he could had made it hasn't he waited for me, we were rebooked at 1pm flight meaning I was going to arrive in DC around 9pm and my offer to run with Elizabeth at the track at 7:30pm went down the drain and I totally messed up her schedule. I went back to hotel and as I read email I get a couple of urgent requests from my office (I hate that). Flight to Houston was OK but then flight from Houston to DC was delayed for about an hour. Got to DC Reagan airport and I was craving for a Dunkin' Donuts confident stomach was OK, store was already closed, damn it. Got home and decided to go back to my old habit of running very late at night, weather was nice (maybe a bit warm). Run was going good and legs were feeling great until mile 4.2 when I decided to fall to the ground badly and landed on my right elbow and hip, big bruises welcome and my 2014 Shamrock marathon shirt has a big hole now! Anyway this stupid fall wasn't not going to stop me from getting in my 6 miles. Lesson: if you are going to fall badly do it late at night when there is no one around to make fun of you... Don't make me laugh, it's painful, I guess rib cage was impacted too... I give it a 75% chance that tomorrow will be a better day...

What a day Miguel! Hopefully there's not any permanent damage. Hope this doesn't affect your marathon, welcome home.

That sounds like a day from hell. Hope you didnt bruise your ribs. Take care of yourself. Missing a day or two of training is not going to derail anything. Hope you are ok.

Wow!!!! Don't miss the supreme lesson: Don't sleep in and miss your plane, even when you don't feel like it. 😁😁 It's likely that none of the other dominos would have fallen if you had sucked it up and gotten up. Sleep on the plane. But stuff happens, and you still ran. The sun will still rise tomorrow. Heal fast, my friend. Thank God your injury (hopefully) was minor.

I fell running in the dark last year. Banged myself up, like you, and broke a rib. The knee ended up being a bigger problem (longer). I don't run in the dark anymore.

Man you could have said this before! I'm in pain, especially when I take a deep breath... Ribs don't feel good but I can tolerate the pain so I'm taking that as a signal that nothing is broken in there!

You might go to the Dr. They can't do anything to make them heal faster, but they can give you painkillers that'll make it easier to sleep and such. In my case, the pain wasn't so bad, except when I sneezed; then pretty bad. They can also look for a pneumothorax (sp?), where a broken rib pierces the lung, allowing a bubble to form outside the lung. Bad, since it might lead to a collapsed lung.

Went to the Dr. too much pain. Good news there is no broken ribs, bad news I'm off running for at least a week and pain permits. Got my painkillers, that's all what I wanted...
