Hi Meseret,
In preparation for your racing season, what does your typical training week look like? not only in terms of weekly volume but in the balance of aerobic and anaerobic workouts. And lastly how do you maintain your peak during the racing season?

Alexander: My mileage volume varies from 90 miles a week to 110 miles a week. I have 2 running workouts a day, 6 days a week (7th day is for the rest). I do ranges of tempo runs, short speed intervals and long distance runs. For anaerobic....we say no Ethiopian day will be complete without fast strides uphill! As well as weight workouts daily focused in core and leg strength. Prevent injuries is so important to me so I also include other strengthening, stretching, ice baths and message rigorously.

Typically, I do one easier long run and one shorter speed work during a day. To maintain peak, we try to not over race or "taper" too much. Taper must be careful!

Hello Meseret. Great job with the track season so far and hope World Championships go well. In the U.S. parents are afraid of letting their kids run too many miles at a young age. When do you think it's ok for kids to start running more than 50 miles per week? Thanks.

John: I do not know exactly but I know in ethiopia many of us ran as kids to and from school. However, I would not reccomend over training at such a young age because it is not nessasary. Sometimes I see very good young runners not meet goals of future after training so much at age 7, 8, 9, 10

Meseret, can you describe your stride workouts in more detail please? You mentioned some strides on hills. How far or how much time? Number of repeats?

Patrick: the strides are done after a hard workout after recover time. About 120m uphill at a hard pace and jog down. Do 4-6 of these
