alright Rock n Roll Portland Half 13.1 mi 02:10 09:54 pace

I ran this race with my husband. It was his first half, and although we ran our own races, it was nice to know that he was out on the course as well and to celebrate afterwards.

This was a tough race for me. I felt like the Eugene Marathon finally caught up to me. My legs were heavy the entire way, and I just never got into a comfortable groove. Despite that, I was very happy about it because I felt like I had to really work hard to get through it. My finish time was 36 seconds off from a PR, and the potty stop at mile 2 certainly didn't help it. It was a reminder, though, that not every race needs to be a PR, and I run because I love it even when it's hard.

Part of the course was nearby my neighborhood, and it was great to see some of my neighbors out cheering. Support from the Chicks on the course was also very motivating and much appreciated. I managed to pick up the pace just a bit every time I ran past a spectator I knew.

I thought the race was very well organized. This was my first Rock n Roll event, and I haven't heard the greatest things about them, but I was very impressed by how smoothly things went for an inaugural race of this size. The aid stations weren't crowded, the course was a nice change (although I would've preferred fewer turns), bands were great, and there were a variety of food and beverages at the finish line. There were also photographers everywhere pre and post race snapping shots. It'll probably be the most photos that hubby and I have of the two of us together!
