  1. RUN
    good Monday intervals 4.69 mi

Did a mess of intervals. Aimed for 20 secs at around 6 minute per mile pace. Ended up going too long and too fast for my intervals. Will try to adjust this for the next session.

That's a lot of intervals... how do you feel afterwards? Barefoot, I take it?

you just have to keep at it, you don't have to kill yourself. endurance comes in time. I took thirty pounds before my last surgery thanks to the treadmill, and of course now that's crapped out and I'm hoping for a new one. you'll do it.

good Grand Haven vacation run 3.15 mi

Another nice GH run. A little humid, but the rain held off. Tons of walkers, runners, and bikers along the channel this morning. Kept passing a local shod running group.

  5. RUN
great Grand Haven vacation run 2.7 mi

Ran along the channel. Cool temp, but a little humid, nice breeze.

  6. RUN
    alright 5.17 mi

Not much to say. But I would really like to see the humidity go away.

Yeah, it wasn't horrible, and in many respects, given the conditions was pretty good. I have to remind myself that in cooler, dryer weather, 5 miles would end up being more like 7 or 8 miles.

I'm still in my first seasonal cycle as a runner, having started in winter/spring. I agree, this heat and humidity is oppressive and I can't wait for the first nip in the air... won't that be a treat!

My first barefoot year was 2007 after year of trying to run in shoes. So far, Fall has been my favorite time of year to run, by far.

Had to get out just to reduce the stress of the week a bit. Hoping that the next couple weeks ease up stress wise. The clouds earlier in the morning kept the pavement from getting too hot. Prett... read more

blah Overly sensitive feet run 8.05 mi

Good for maybe the first 5 or 6 miles, but my feet ended up very sensitive by the end. I took a long water break after 7 miles and thought I could do another few miles at that point. However, eve... read more

Nice miles, despite the feet crapping out on you. Mine did the same this morning... guess it's all in order with building endurance. I'm so jealous (in a way) that you met up with other barefoot runners. I'm the only one in my neighborhood, which makes me proud and lonely at the same time.

The funny thing was that after about 5 or 6 miles, I thought I would be good for close to 10 miles today. But my feet had a definite change in plans. My sense is that my form was breaking down after 5 miles and hence the irritation.

But on the other hand, was a lot of fun to run with our small group of 4 barefoot runners.

That's how you build endurance...just go until you can't go anymore. I felt like that this morning. A co-worker asked me if it was "still worth it". I told her that it was...you don't give up after going to the gym a few times and being sore the next day. You have to build up to it...part of that is having some days where you don't quite do as much as you originally wanted to do. Just don't let it frustrate you...the next run will be even easier and better.

James -- I think the humidity makes a big difference. On a cooler, less humid day, I expect I would have been able to go a lot further. I can't pay much attention to the numbers on a day like Sunday.

  10. RUN
great Independence day run 7.04 mi

Started off really low energy, but just eased into the run slowly. Definitely felt much better after the first 1/2 hour or so. Overall, pretty decent run.

  11. RUN
    alright 2.78 mi

Okay for a 6 AM run, but I'm still not used to early morning running yet this year. Very hot, very humid. Did 3 short 5K'ish intervals. Tried to keep the pace between 6:30 and 7:00.

  12. RUN
blah 1st really dumb run of 2011 5.11 mi

I should have know there is a reason not to run in the middle of the day during the Summer. Thankfully, I don't think I did any real damage to my feet. My left foot is a little tender, but I thin... read more

I thought with the temp in the mid 70's that the pavement wouldn't be a problem. Lesson learned.

    great Ricky Byrdsong 10K 6.2 mi 00:50 08:05 pace

Fun run, the rain held off, and more barefooters this year than ever before. Sped up the last 2 miles to get under an hour.

  15. RUN
    great Youth Mile 1 mi

3 year in a row running the Youth Mile with my son. Still a fun, fun run.

  16. RUN
    great 1.72 mi

Nice taper run, really, really easy. However, later in the evening I mashed my little toe against a bed post. Either broken or bruised. I suspect it will hurt wearing shoes tomorrow.

  17. RUN
good around the neighborhood 2.25 mi

Meant to go easier than I did. Sometimes my feet seem to have ideas of their own.
