Today was the Niantic Bay Half Marathon....I was hoping to do a 1:45 today until an ankle injury popped up late last week. I cut my weekly mileage back big time this week so it could heal. I decided today to relax and take it easy.
I skipped the warm up today - as I figured I didnt want to "waste" the limited miles in me on a warm up for a 13.1 miles. The start of the race was very slow as the course was very narrow. This ended up being good as it forced me to easy into the race and to not go out too fast. After the first half mile the ankle was starting to feel a little better so I picked up the pace. Once I got to mile two, I tuned everything out put it on cruise control and just ran.
As we headed out for the second loop of the course I wasnt sure if the cruise control would hold for another loop. But I shut down the brain again and was able to hold on. There was only a couple turns where the ankle wasnt too happy about. New PR today which I'm thrilled about and was 2 1/2 minutes under my goal.
Recovery afterwards was a burger and fries from Archie Moores, with a Guinness and a "side" of Jamesons. See how the ankle feels in the morning.

Wow, wow, wow!!! From a shaky week, not knowing how you'd do, to a new PR and smashing your goal! Smart move starting slowly, so you could finish strong! Love the recovery choices too! Ice up and rest up. Great job, Mark!

Mark, way to go, sometimes rest is what the body needs. Way to kill your goal and get a new PR. Now you have to update your daily mile goals.
Congrats!

Thank you guys. Ice has been on my ankle on and off today - feels no worse (or better) than it did pre-race. I think Ill take this week and easy back into training again. This race has done wonders for my confidence though. @Michael - goals will be updated after Philly....so far the first two are done. Just need to finish Philly.
