HELP!! I need some advice. Somehow I injured one of my quads. Right in the center it feels bruised/tight. I don't know how it happened. It started hurting during my run on Monday and I took yesterday off. It started from the beginning of my run today, and while I thought it might loosen up, it didn't so I turned back. I am not happy about this; sort of pissed. Any suggestions beside the obvious (don't run, ice, stretch, whatever) would be greatly appreciated. I'd especially like to hear from you if you have had a similar injury. It is not a sharp pain, just ongoing. And I have a 5 mile trail race Saturday, of course! Thanks!!

You could try rolling it out on a foam roller.

Oh that sucks. Professional sports massage or The Stick/foam roller/rolling pin?

In addition to the roller/stick, get some Arnica Gel and rub it in 2-4 times a day. If anything is inflamed or if you have a small tear or anything, it will speed the healing up like crazy. And yes, stay the hell off of it until Saturday. You are going to gain nothing in the next 3 days by running. Take care!

I got the Arnica gel Bidding suggested. Will use my Stick and foam roller more when I get home. Thanks all! My running club is doing a timed 5k tonight. Guess I will be skipping it. LOL!

I tore my sartorius muscle once, but my pain was more in my groin. Anywhoo... I had to do physical therapy for 6 weeks and my therapist would do an ultrasound to the site to help speed healing. I'm sure your injury is not that severe, but ultrasound also helps with strains/minor pulls. If you have an ortho doc that you see, maybe he/she could hook you up. I think they helped me... along with all the other suggestions of course. Heal fast!!

Or.. a sports medicine doc may even do it in his/her office. Just a thought : )

Icy Hot patch as well (but I think the Arnica gel is basically the same? not sure). I keep a patch on cranky spots that don't go away while at work (I am on my feet a lot at work).

Wish I had different advice besides rest or see the phsyio. I have been out with injury for a while & just when I thought it was okay to run, my dr. told me no running tonight. So, I totally understand being upset. If you run, run smart - easy but don't let it linger or you'll be out longer.

google "active isolated stretching" - has worked for several friends with similar issues

I am too new to have advice but I sure hope you heal very quickly. You can also buy homeopathic arnica pills to take orally along with the gel. I order mine but you could probably buy them at your local Health store.

Sorry to here about your injury dude. Get better quick! Take it easy! The body has a funny way of healing it's self. (recovery time maybe too slow for you!)
