I'll be honest...I'm officially frustrated now. I'm not seeing any running in my near future as it's a struggle now to just walk around without limping much. :( About the only thing I can do is keep up my 100 pushups and 100 situps routine and start doing some stretching for the piriformis and hope that it subsides at some point. Decided to challenge myself with the situps and see how many I could do without stopping. I quit at 100 so that was at least something good today. Then, I did 50 straight pushups before stopping and did the final 50 in two sets of 25. At least I have that. I might try to see how riding feels tomorrow, but I'm just not as motivated to wake up early and sit on a stationary bike and I need to be careful not to make things worse.
OK, I'm done with my pity party. :) There are a lot worse things that I could be dealing with today. I hope that all of you are able to take advantage of the nicer weather and get great workouts in. You inspire me!

Take the "time off" to recover-that's still a good work out-get healthy!

I hope you get better soon!!!! Thinking of you!

Did you get an official diagnosis of piriformis syndrome? Might be worth getting it checked out if you can, also may find some PT work that helps - often there is more you can do than you think. Hope you figure things out.

I totally understand Dave, try to hang in there. I know it is frustrating but it looks like you are doing what you can instead of wallowing in cookies and chips (like I probably would, lol). Feel better soon!

I hope this thing passes soon whatever it is. Take care of yourself and don't be afraid to rest, Dave. You'll be back at it soon...I know it!

Greg and others, the advantage of working in the athletic department at a college is having access to an athletic trainer (who I also happened to go to school with). He's working with me and we're doing what we can to get me back out there as quick as possible.
I appreciate all of your well wishes and I hate to even post any kind of negative stuff on here because I don't want to be 'that guy'. :) Just frustrated and grumpy today 'cause I miss my runs. LOL

Of course you miss your runs! I'm frustrated for you! I'm sure piriformis is part of it, but it doesn't generally affect you when walking. Usually back issues will affect your walking. Sounds like the sciatic nerve may be aggravated. Piriformis pain is right in the middle of the butt. If it continues, it might be good to see a chiropractor...best to know exactly what you're dealing with.

Sorry to read this Dave. There are so many seasons in running (I don't mean Summer, Winter, Spring and Fall either). Take this season of rest and you'll be back in no time. Trust the body when it's talking to you. Hope you're back out there soon.

You are completely allowed to grump on days like this. Being injured is tough. You serve as an inspiration that you keep fighting through and doing what you can. I hope the pain begins to subside soon!

it sounds like a combination of piriformis & sciatica. I've had that before too & my hip & leg would actually buckle out from under me. Sciatica makes walking very painful. You should go see my sports chiropractor, Dan Stambaugh here in Johnstown. He doesn't make you keep coming back day after day for weeks either. He will adjust you & do some therapy & you see him when you feel you need to. I don't know where my running would be without him! He's helped me thru many ailments including my tendoniti
