The goal today was to run the Earth Day Half Marathon course in 1:45. It took an all-out sprint the last 2+ miles, but my Garmin hit 13.1 just as the time hit 1:45 so I think I nailed that goal. I ran this course 10 minutes faster in last year's race, but today wasn't about doing it at pace.
I met up with Teri P., George H., Donald C., and Tricia P. at 7 a.m. and we set out starting at the actual starting line on the track. We took it easy through the 4-mile loop of the village and Teri and I gradually pulled away. When Tricia turned around after six miles, Donald picked up his pace and caught up with us. Teri and I were both having stomach issues from mile five or six on and my right hip was pretty tight the entire run. With about three miles to go, I pulled away as I tried to stretch out my hip by going faster. This seemed to work so I just kept picking up speed the rest of the way and as a result met my goal. Here are the splits:
Mile 1 - 8:47, Mile 2 - 8:33, Mile 3 - 8:03, Mile 4 - 7:38, Mile 5 - 7:59, Mile 6 - 7:54, Mile 7 - 8:10, Mile 8 - 8:03, Mile 9 - 8:26, Mile 10 - 8:21, Mile 11 - 8:07, Mile 12 - 7:13, Mile 13 - 7:07, last .10 - 6:36 pace with a run best 6:01 max at some point.
The big issue was that once I stopped my back really started hurting and hasn't stopped. I had to rush to work for two college basketball games and then got 20 minutes of stim treatment from our trainer. I'm hoping this goes away in a day or two.

Awesome job!!

I had the same thing happen to me after a run about a month ago. Back completely pulled out after a run...only took a few days to get better....hope it's the same for you. Great run today though!

Thanks everyone! I'm hoping it's nothing too serious that another day or two off from running won't cure. I'm now officially through half of my 18-week training program for the Earth Day full.

Nice goal-meeting Half Dave. I hope your back feels better quick. BTW, I was surfing the Columbus Marathon website and came across a blog from you that got posted there with your photo and everything! You're famous!
