I woke up at 5 a.m. fully expecting to see the ground covered with snow that would make my scheduled 9-mile run a little more of a challenge. Fortunately, it didn't hit until just now so it was a non-factor for the run. The goal was a consistent easy pace since my legs are still tight from Sunday's race and I'm pleased to report that I made it through the run with that goal intact. I ran the first 4.25 before meeting Teri P., George H., Tricia P., and Brad P. for the Mount Vernon Running Buddies 5K. I ran 3.5 miles with Teri and then set off for home knowing that I would finish with the brutal hill. Suprisingly, the legs feel pretty good. Here are the splits:
Mile 1 - 7:35, Mile 2 - 7:25, Mile 3 - 7:28, Mile 4 - 7:29, Mile 5 - 8:06, Mile 6 - 7:41, Mile 7 - 7:49, Mile 8 - 7:45, Mile 9 - 7:57, Mile 10 - 8:17, Last .20 - 9:20 pace.

Lots of foam rolling and stretching have helped, Greg. I'm probably 80% now. I'll get a nice easy 4-miler in tomorrow and then am supposed to do 800s on Thursday. I've had the most trouble consistently following the plan on Thursdays for some reason and speed work is an important area to help with my overall preparation.

That's a really great 10, especially after Sunday! As for the hill, you're going to have to start running up that thing backward to keep it challenging!

Great run this morning! Fingers crossed that you can get through your mental crankies for Thursdays this week with a big smile. I know you can hammer that speed work into shape in no time.
