good Trying for 7 at a 7:00 7 mi 00:49 06:59 pace

The plan called for 7 miles at marathon pace today, but my dream goal was to push it to do 7 at a 7:00 pace. When I woke up to see a fresh sprinkling of snow on the ground, I wasn't sure how that would play out, but I still wanted to see what I could do. I met up with Teri P., George H., Scott B., and Tricia P. at the MVNU chapel and then we all took off.

The first mile was a quick one, but I felt like I kept it under control and didn't go too fast that I would be spent by the end. The footing was ok as I was making the first tracks of the day. From there, the footing got a little tougher as it was best when stepping in the fresh snow and not the slush or tire tracks.

I got through the first three miles and was 25 seconds under pace with splits of 6:43, 6:52, and 7:00. Miles four and five were pretty consistent at 7:03 and 7:01, but then things got tough during mile six. There's a gradual incline, the road had gotten icy, and I was starting to fatigue. (I realized that about the five mile mark is where I should start refueling, but didn't prepare for that today but I am making a mental note of that.) I ended up with a 7:20 for mile six, but when I heard the Garmin beep at the mile mark and saw it said 42:00 that I really had a shot to make my goal. I dug deep and pushed myself to finish strong. Somehow, I cranked out a 6:59 final mile. :) I was spent, but I had made it!!!
