I tried a new trail today by the fishing hole that I've been going to lately. It's a great spot right near Lock 2 in Waterford, the place where the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers converge. I ran along the remnants of the Champlain Canal. It was devoid of all human life, and therefore slightly intimidating for a young single woman to run, but the path was dirt (definitely more comfy on the joints) and pretty. It's a perfect "deep in thought" kind of run. The trail ends at a dam, but I made my run into a loop by running along the road back to the Waterford Heritage Center. I always run too fast on the road because I know people are looking at me as they drive by!
And ladies, how angry do you get when you're running and minding your own business and then some jerk drives/walks/runs/bikes by and makes a rude comment or issues a cat call!? That's how my run began today, and I thought that it was going to suck because of it. Hearing cat calls makes me so mad that I run too fast and then get too tired. I get too angry at idiot men and angry at myself for not knowing exactly how to respond. Why can't the world just appreciate the beauty of a female athlete and leave her in peace?
Anyway, I am definitely going to be investigating the Waterford/Cohoes running trails more because this is where the Erie Canalway and the Hudson River trails meet up.... somewhere.... I still need to map it out.
