This was an easy run on my favorite five-mile course. No pain, though I'm a little stiff. I wore the new Cleveland Marathon shirt. It feels different running today than it did last week.

Nice race report Tony! Congrats again on your first marathon!! So I'm curious did you just drink water at the aid stops? If so, that could have been part of the issue, since you were running in heat and humidity you were not yet acclimated to. My guideline is any time you are out there over 4 hours, you need electrolyte supplementation. Especially un-acclimated as you are probably not reclaiming much sodium from your sweat glands. You did a great job pacing in those conditions though!!!

It took me almost a full year of long races to figure out a balance. Seeking this balance was the only real training I did between my 1st and 2nd marathons. Didn't quite get it right, but enough so to knock off 4minutes. I finally got it good for the 50mi. Now that you're a Marathoner, you need to hone your skills. 18weeks.

Funny - I was already counting the weeks, too. I planned on 2 weeks rest and recovery, then back into another 16-week cycle, starting slowly, of course. After Cleveland, this is clearly on the list of items to address.

alright Cleveland Marathon 26.44 mi 05:00 11:21 pace
The short initial report. My brother and I ran through mile 4. He turned his ankle in mile 2, struggled, then told me to go ahead - he was going to find a medical person and drop out. I stepped up ... read more

Greta job Tony. I've read several posts talking about the heat and humidity back that way. Get some rest.

great Final Three-Miler 3.02 mi 00:26 08:45 pace
Nice easy three-miler to loosen the legs and check the gear for Sunday. The weather was perfect - a little cloudy with a slight breeze. The gear is good, the legs are definitely fresh, and I'm... read more

RUN
great Broadway 3.01 mi 00:26 08:43 pace
I was surprised by the pace on this one. This is about a full minute per mile faster than I intended to run. The heat was ridiculous. Other than that, a pretty loose and easy run.

great Last Sunday Long Run 8.01 mi 01:13 09:09 pace
There wasn't a bad moment in this run. The weather was perfect. The legs feel better than they've felt in months. I kept my head up and enjoyed the spring scenery. And, two bald eagles we... read more

great Muscatine, Highland, Keokuk 3.95 mi 00:34 08:36 pace
Short run. My Garmin died 2.26 miles in, so time and distance are estimated. Legs feel good. It was tough to keep this run slow and easy.

I agree - I am hardly aware of anyone else's relative position around me when running a marathon, it's all about running against myself. I get this huge rush from being completely 100% focused on the narrowest of goals for 3.75 hours. It's a little addictive! I want more crack!

yeah I have found some low-intensity cross training to just keep the blood flow up tends to speed recovery as well - I know you are used to the bike anyway Tony, you might try that
