  1. RUN
great My Favorite Five 5.04 mi 00:45 08:58 pace

This was an easy run on my favorite five-mile course. No pain, though I'm a little stiff. I wore the new Cleveland Marathon shirt. It feels different running today than it did last week.

  2. The Clevleland Marathon race report is up: http://bit.ly/10jigFO. Now, for a very relaxed 5 miles.

Nice race report Tony! Congrats again on your first marathon!! So I'm curious did you just drink water at the aid stops? If so, that could have been part of the issue, since you were running in heat and humidity you were not yet acclimated to. My guideline is any time you are out there over 4 hours, you need electrolyte supplementation. Especially un-acclimated as you are probably not reclaiming much sodium from your sweat glands. You did a great job pacing in those conditions though!!!

It took me almost a full year of long races to figure out a balance. Seeking this balance was the only real training I did between my 1st and 2nd marathons. Didn't quite get it right, but enough so to knock off 4minutes. I finally got it good for the 50mi. Now that you're a Marathoner, you need to hone your skills. 18weeks.

Funny - I was already counting the weeks, too. I planned on 2 weeks rest and recovery, then back into another 16-week cycle, starting slowly, of course. After Cleveland, this is clearly on the list of items to address.

  3. RUN
alright Cleveland Marathon 26.44 mi 05:00 11:21 pace

The short initial report. My brother and I ran through mile 4. He turned his ankle in mile 2, struggled, then told me to go ahead - he was going to find a medical person and drop out. I stepped up ... read more

  4. RUN
    great Final Three-Miler 3.02 mi 00:26 08:45 pace

Nice easy three-miler to loosen the legs and check the gear for Sunday. The weather was perfect - a little cloudy with a slight breeze. The gear is good, the legs are definitely fresh, and I'm... read more

  5. RUN
    great Broadway 3.01 mi 00:26 08:43 pace

I was surprised by the pace on this one. This is about a full minute per mile faster than I intended to run. The heat was ridiculous. Other than that, a pretty loose and easy run.

  6. RUN
great Last Sunday Long Run 8.01 mi 01:13 09:09 pace

There wasn't a bad moment in this run. The weather was perfect. The legs feel better than they've felt in months. I kept my head up and enjoyed the spring scenery. And, two bald eagles we... read more

great Gilbert St. 5.01 mi 00:45 08:56 pace

Another easy leg-stretcher. This was supposed to be 3 miles, but I couldn't resist an extra 2. I just took it a little slower. Focused on leaning from the ankles and rotating around my core. L... read more

  8. RUN
great Keokuk St. 4.01 mi 00:35 08:45 pace

Nice short easy run. Very relaxed. Focused on leaning from the ankles and keeping my head up. Just what I needed.

  9. Resistance is (almost) futile. I was almost overwhelmed by the urge to run yesterday after work. The weather was great. I thought about it all the way home from CR, convincing myself that it'd... read more

My limited experience says it is better to run too little than too much in the last couple weeks. Just run enough to maintain sanity. Nice smart self-control, Tony.

Good job. I think we all know that run-jealousy feeling, when you see happy runners out in beautiful weather and you can't go.

  10. RUN
great Muscatine, Highland, Keokuk 3.95 mi 00:34 08:36 pace

Short run. My Garmin died 2.26 miles in, so time and distance are estimated. Legs feel good. It was tough to keep this run slow and easy.

  11. RUN
great Sunday We Run 10.33 mi 01:37 09:22 pace

Nice run with Ross S. and others. Good pace for a taper run. Pushed at the end, though Ross went easy on me. The weather was foggy at the start but cleared up nicely. Legs feel good, though the hip... read more

I agree - I am hardly aware of anyone else's relative position around me when running a marathon, it's all about running against myself. I get this huge rush from being completely 100% focused on the narrowest of goals for 3.75 hours. It's a little addictive! I want more crack!

Having seen you run, I think you'll benefit from the wider last of the Flows. Haven't seen your arch though. Great splits!

88° - Hotter than I thought it was supposed to be today. Despite the heat and feeling a little dry, not a bad run.
