great Villa Park to Newport Back Bay via Mt to Sea Trail 22.01 mi 03:25 09:19 pace

A GREAT run! We started out at Villa Park H.S., ran up to Santiago Oaks, through the trails to Jamboree and then followed the Mt to Sea Trail down to Newport Back Bay. The weather was fantastic and we even got rained on in the later miles. Rod, Kim and Marci picked up the pace about halfway through, but I wanted to save my legs and avoid injury, so I kept the pace at a more reasonable speed (between 9:15 and 9:30, which is actually a bit fast for my long runs). Kelly stayed back and ran with me. I started hurting around 16-17 miles and wondered how well I would finish. I pushed through that mini-wall and took my last Gu around mile 19. I kicked into another gear for the last bit. Mile 20 was 9:03, mile 21 was 8:37 and mile 22 was 8:07!!! There is something about running your 22nd mile faster than any other mile that makes you feel INVINCIBLE.
