An unexpected surprise of an almost-PR!!** My official chip time via the race website is actually faster than what my Garmin originally showed. I wrote on Friday (http://www.dailymile.com/people/Lisarg/entries/12126463) that I hoped to run a decent sub-2. This is my 45th day in a row of running. I ran a HARD 10 last week, a super tough spin workout on Tuesday and then 8.5 miles yesterday--absolutely no taper. My legs have been feeling like jello lately.
This morning, I decided to have zero race plan because I really didn't have anything to lose. I had *hopes* of a 1:45, but didn't expect it. So I went out FAST, opposite of what I usually do. While the last couple miles SUCKED, the first part was pretty fun. In fact, according to my Garmin, my 10K time was 49:09, almost a minute faster than my 10K PR of 50:00. While I normally prefer negative splits, I am happy with this race. As bad as I felt toward the end, I was able to pull out an 8:06 for the 13th mile and then sprint the last .25 (I ran the course a bit long) at a blistering 6:45 pace. Thank you, random lady who looks like you are around my age-- you gave me inspiration to really push it to beat you.
Oh...and 10th in my age group. woo hoo!
**My PR is from Fontana (http://www.dailymile.com/people/Lisarg/entries/4874144), which is a very downhill course. Today's course was a much harder course.

way to go! nice time in both the 10k & 1/2 mar. do you know what your 10mile was?
i used to find that in a race where i really didnt have a set plan, i would be more relaxed & could just let it fly.

Thanks! There was a mat at 10 miles, but I can't seem to find it online. According to Garmin data, it looks like 10 miles was about 1:20:36.
You're right, I didn't hold myself back when I saw I was going sub-8 in the first miles. I figured if I blew up at the end, it wouldn't matter because I didn't have a lot invested in this race. It made me relax a lot! I wish I could approach every race this way. It is when I have a set goal that I tend to micro manage myself.
