I did it!!! (swearing the entire last four miles-lol) Opposite of last week's long run, I felt "tired" right out of the gate. I knew it was going to be a looooooong 20 miles, I said to myself on multiple occasions, "I'll do 18 and see how I feel". It was one of those runs where I was counting down the miles and not really getting into a groove. Last 5 miles were VERY hard, but I knew I had to at least go further than last week's 17. At 16, I just took it one step at a time - which made each mile seems like ions, telling myself "I can do this". I took mental notes of how I may not have prepared properly days before and will adjust for marathon week. Just an all around "off" run. Hate those days! Hopefully this is the off day so I can feel "on" on Feb. 5! Thanks to my DM friends and OC Coast Runners group for your support and encouragement. (and of course my sweet sister, Jamie - who gave me nothing but positives!) <3

GREAT effort! it's especially hard to get in those tough workouts when you are having an off day. now nothing but recovery & maybe a few light sharpening strides to keep you limber & ready to race! sorry i missed this when you posted!!

:) Thank you, thank you!!!! It was tough. I couldn't have imagined going another .5 mile, let alone another 6.2!!! I'm worried I won't be able to run the entire race. :( Hopefully, it'll be a "good run" day, that's all I can ask, considering I've done everything within my power to train for this marathon. Legs a bit wobbly so I skipped the 5 miler yesterday and surfed. Today I am going to try an easy 5. I'm supposed to run 11 on Sunday, but I feel that might even be too much for a long run the

weekend before the marathon. What are your thoughts on that? (since you are now my secret coach!) ha ha ha!! Thank you again for your support!!!

the 20 miler is done! we know you can go the distance. race day is so much different than a daily workout. you'll do fine.
for the weekend b4 the marathon, you'll "feel" better if you stick to the original plan of 11, & now 11 miles is a simple loop around back bay! or just head out to the coast & run along the ocean. flat & great scenery & just start with the plan of 11"ISH" miles & run what your body feels. you'll still have a week to recover & refresh the legs!

OK!! I'll go for it nice, easy, slow, fun! Oh!! I wanted to tell you the right glutes are MUCH better. I've been stretching semi regularly and using the jacuzzi - I think I "worked" out the kink - so that makes me happy, too! :)) Sounds logical, but stretching actually works! LOL

way back, b4 you were born, when i began my running career, my doc insisted that i stretch b4 every run, and later in life i learned it also helps to stretch after as well. i even try to do some stretching thru the day if i feel the need. so keep it up, but dont over stretch, you can also hurt yourself if you do too much.
hows the feet? still sore during the long runs? or did that disappear with time?

feet not hurting either (knock on wood) after the 20, however, on that night - it felt like there was a little pebble under my skin, near ball of feet. That pain went away though.

it was only on one foot (the left) - it was bizarre. Even with my super soft slippers on, I felt like there was a tiny pebble in my shoe. I would take off my slipper and shake it out, nothing there -- then just stepped on my bare foot and felt the same thing. Fortunately it went away by the next morning. :)
