Another intense and exciting run. This is one of the feared portions of the marathon I'll run in September. After doing 3 solid miles of wicked uphill on trails and dirt road, you get to do 4.5 miles of rugged rolling terrain, some of which is very steep with rocks and roots. You run 2 something miles one way, turn around and run it again in the other direction - The Out and Back. On the plus side, you get to see who's ahead of you and who's behind you.
I did this as an 85% HR run, and added a mile of Ester Dome Road on either side. Woo-Hoo! I am excited. I ran it almost a minute a mile faster than what I anticipate for my actual race.
Boy, there sure were times going up a hill that I wished my HR monitor would chime sooner telling me I could walk the rest of the way up the hill. I guess that's the price you pay when you get stronger.
