  8. RUN
great Silver Creek Half Loop 1.9 mi

Took the dog for a jog. First run after several months off and it felt good to get back out. My feet were still tough enough for about 2 miles with several sprints thrown in.

  9. RUN
    great Silvercreek Loop 2.27 mi

Took the puppy on a run to tire him out before everyone shows up for lunch. It was like doing intervals... he would sprint for about 30 seconds and then slow down and then sprint again. He actual... read more

  10. RUN
    great Silvercreek Loop 2.27 mi

The puppy is done with vaccinations, so we took him out on a jog. He's a pretty good running partner already. He doesn't really stop to sniff anything and stays by my side without pulli... read more

Haha. How the heck did you spot us? This must have been at the very beginning because you were close by me! ;)

Mr. Toad's parking lot goatheads. If I hadn't already tried the route, this would have scared me into wearing fivefingers (which is what happened in Springville).

    • Freddie

So many people use the trails that the puncturevine never has a chance to grow there. Now the "parking lot" is another matter. I was also picking those out of my shoes before the race.

    great Mr Toads 5k 3 mi 00:26 08:37 pace

First race barefoot went well. 49th overall, 6/13 age group. I started too far back in the pack and had to pass a lot of people. Other than that, I didnt feel like being barefoot slowed me down ... read more

great SC Loop 2.31 mi 00:18 07:41 pace

Good run, just more foot conditioning for next saturday. Based on this run, I will probably be shooting for about a 7:30 pace.

  15. Yesterday was the last day for Mr Toad's early registration, so I had to make a decision. With only two weeks left, there's just not enough time to get my feet ready for the 20k. I cons... read more

If the course is muddy, that changes the entire composition of running barefoot.

Yeah, thats another reason to do the 5k. Having wet feet for 20 minutes is no big deal, but 2 hours could be bad. And theres nothing too crazy on the 5k route where traction would be an issue.

True, the crazy mud comes after the 10K splits off. On top of the plateau, before you hit the bike path asphalt, there is a lot of clay, I think you get two or three inches taller while running through it, as it builds up on the bottom of your shoes.

    great Mr Toads 5k x2 6 mi

If you must, go for the 20K in the Vibrams.

That will be an option too. It will all depends on how it goes when I try to 20k route. If I can't pull it off BF, I will either do the 20k in VFFs or 5k barefoot. Wish they had a 10k, that would be just right.
