blah Broad Street Run 10 mi 02:09 12:54 pace

I'm really disappointed with my time. Had to use the bathroom and I think that set me back 5-10 minutes because each set a POPs I ran past had a long line and I eventually gave in. I keep tell... read more

My first NYC I was undertrained and injured. Like Disney it's do-or-die (no half). It hurt like hell at the end, I was injured but a month or so after, but...I was a marathoner. I don't regret that decision at all. But now, with two fulls under my belt, I'm ok with pulling out of Miami due to injury. Honest opinion? I think if you start, you'll finish, but you have to forgo any time goals and be ok with a long recovery time

thanks for your opinion, Rachel! you've given me so much help throughout my training and I really trust your advice! I've been cleared to run so I'm going to try my best! I'm 100% okay with being slower than usual and I am okay with taking some time off to recover. :)

Amazing job! At this point I wouldn't worry about speed. I used to hemorrhage speed on runs 16 . It wasn't until this year I was more consistent - and that took 50 miles/week, two speed sessions, a midweek long run and regular long run, and running 14-16 mile long runs year round. Building endurance (to maintain leg speed) is tough!

Patelloformal is basically runners knee - once the pain dies down you'll be able to run as your pain dictates. I think some degree of pain is unavoidable when you are coming back from injury, but pain that is altering your gait is never ok to run through. Don't let the podiatrist shoot you up with cortisone and then say you can run on that. Pain is your way of your body telling you something is wrong. Masking it only harms your body in the long run. No race is worth that!

What's annoying is that I don't even have pain in my knee, that was something additional he saw in the xray. I was only there for the bursitis. Hopefully I just pulled something in my foot overcompensating! As much as it sucks, I know the longterm is not worth risking by pushing through it.
