Recovery Week Run #1 - Shin pain almost immediately, in both legs. Tried to run through it, but had to stop, didn't want to make matters worse.

Ouch. Take it easy.

Sorry to hear about the pain, Kovas. Is this something you've been dealing with for awhile?

I've had shin pain on and off, kind of at random. Tried stretching after runs, not stretching, dynamic stretching before runs, no pattern that I can find. I think I might be a little bit overtrained - this Clydesdale needs to let the quarterhorses go! :)

That was my guess, Kovas. Shin pain is often an overuse injury. Noticed that your pace was fast too; that might have triggered it.

Also, I've been doing predominantly treadmill runs on an incline; my wife's podiatrist warned her that it might cause shin pain, which she just mentioned to me. Happily, it'll be mostly/all outdoors now that the weather will get better. Saturday I'll try a trail run fro my LSD, hopefully that will help as well.

Heavy incline? More than 1.0?

Nope, always 1. But since the New Year, I've gone from sporadic running to running 3 x week, plus 3 bike rides a week on a trainer, and then 2 x a week swimming. Maybe just too much? In any case, I'll take it easy unless I feel good enough to push it again.

Always best to listen to your body. I had to back off on the running during the holidays and glad that I did. Better to take a little time now than wait until you "have" to take a lot of time off.
