tired Red Bean Runners - Group Run 3.07 mi 00:37 11:53 pace

This was my first group run since February because Geoff had hurt his foot and I don't usually like to go alone (yeah, it's a group run but I always run by myself anyway so why not just do my own thing?). This was also my first group run after the time change when it was still very very warm outside (upper 70s). My old running coach had a woman there that he said ran slow like me and said that we should run together. I knew I was in trouble when I mentioned a 12-minute pace (at best! I don't do well in the heat!) and her eyes got big at the sound of my slowness. But she did try to run with me the entire time and kept circling back to me. Which was super-nice for her to do but at the same time I felt super bad for holding her back! So, of course, this means I really overdid it trying to keep up. My first mile was an 11:12 pace (just 12 seconds slower than my first 5k race pace!) and my HR was through the roof. But I still tried to keep up with her, all the while gasping and hoping I didn't die. Now I am really praying that I didn't mess up my legs. I can already feel sore spots on my shins so I'm wearing some compression socks in the hopes that they will help my recovery. :( Splits: 11:12, 12:19, 12:04 http://connect.garmin.com/activity/295419214

Will I ever run faster? These group runs almost kill me. EVERYONE is faster than me. Even NEW RUNNERS who just started running! Sorry for the bum post. Just feeling defeated. I mean, it's a real eye-opener when someone says "this person runs slow, too! Y'all can run together!" and realizing my pace isn't "slow" after all - it's more like "super slow". Ugh.

Thats a crappy feeling, but believe me, all runners have been there occasionally. The important thing is to run consistently and the speed will increase gradually on its own

And if the group run makes you feel that bad, if it were me, I would lay off the group run until you get a little bit faster, or find your own group that runs about the same speed. But that's just me, and I am am also an introvert

Thanks, Randy. Usually the group runs don't bother me too much since I'm used to running them alone. And if given the choice, I would much rather run alone than feel like I'm keeping someone back. I think just seeing the reality of a "slow" runner being much faster than me just sucked. I'm thinking that if they continue to meet at 6pm for these group runs I will definitely have to take the summer off or commit to regular walk breaks. I just can't deal with the heat!

Yeah, come Summer, 6pm is going to be dangerously hot! Running time in summer is more like 6AM
