alright Longleaf Trace 4.12 mi 00:51 12:22 pace

Well, same run as Tuesday but much faster paces today. This was due, in part, to some guy (we'll call him Creepy McFlirtpants) on the Trace that I could not shake (I'm only giving him partial credit for my paces because I'd like to think my own bad-assness had something to do with it too). Saw him at the very beginning (thought nothing of it) but then encountered him again around 35 minutes in and he stuck around the entire rest of my run. You can see a marked increase in my HR around minute 35 which THEN kept me from a good recovery on my last walk break which THEN contributed to my HR busting out of range for my entire last mile. My legs are killing me. I see a lot of ice in my future before my long run on Saturday. :-/ Splits: 12:08, 12:15, 12:26. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/169621985

Love the pace, hate you felt uncomfortable. I've been out on the Trace before when I had that creepy feeling. There were a couple of times when I saw someone who obviously wasn't there for a workout that I've turned around, gone back to my car & headed to workout somewhere else. As a woman who frequently runs alone in very lonely & sometimes eerie places, I've learned to trust my instincts.

Thanks, Jayne. I always have my cell in pocket and runner's pepper spray strapped to my right hand, cocked and ready. And I make a point of making it very visible to those that give me the creeps. This guy was out for a run (and probably harmless) but just a bit too smiley and flirty for my liking. He even followed me to the water fountains at the end and I finally got on my cell phone and he walked off. I didn't want him seeing what car I was driving. Maybe overkill on my part but better safe than sorry!

I hate that feeling. It doesn't happen to me very often, but I always run alone and sometimes I get so worried, especially when there are stories in the news about women runners being abducted. I'm glad you're okay!

that is creepy. even if he didn't have bad intentions, that crosses some kind of social boundary to go beyond "hello, nice day" type of exchange. If you wanted to meet new people and socialize, you would be somewhere else. I like the pepper spray with the hand holster idea! When it gets really summer hot out, you'll have your pepper spray in one hand and a water bottle in the other.

Good for you for trusting your instincts! Safe is better than worrying about being nice.
