  3. RUN
    great Finally. 2.3 mi 00:31 13:28 pace

My first run/walk since MAY. Did it on my treadmill to control my pace. My achilles/heel has still been a bit of a bother but not too terrible. Today I wore a cep achilles brace along with gel hee... read more

yikes! have you gone to the doctor? Once you recover, there are some exercised you can do to strengthen your calves and achilles, which also reduce the chances of plantar fasciitis. If you are not exercising and it has not been getting better, I would go to the doc. They might prescribe some nsaids to help it heal faster.

I know I should see a doc but they are so expensive! :) I just ordered a CEP achilles brace that got great reviews and is able to be worn with shoes. I'm going to give that a try and see if it improves. If not, off to the doc I will go. I just don't want to drop hundreds of $$$ at the doc for him/her to tell me to wear a brace for a while. :-P

Have you tried taking allieve also? I would not do it on the days you try running, but kn the days you take off. 2 alleve twice a day is basically the same thing as the prescription strengh I got when I messed up my calf. Are you taking enough time off before you try running again? My problem in the past has been going back to running too soon and then basically ruining the healing progress I had made. Hooe it gets better soon!

Thanks, Randy! Haven't tried Alleve yet but thanks for the tip! I haven't tried running yet and won't until the pain is gone. Then I'm going to start back sloooooowly. Achilles stuff freaks me out so I'm probably being over-cautious but that's better than permanent damage!

Thats a crappy feeling, but believe me, all runners have been there occasionally. The important thing is to run consistently and the speed will increase gradually on its own

And if the group run makes you feel that bad, if it were me, I would lay off the group run until you get a little bit faster, or find your own group that runs about the same speed. But that's just me, and I am am also an introvert

Thanks, Randy. Usually the group runs don't bother me too much since I'm used to running them alone. And if given the choice, I would much rather run alone than feel like I'm keeping someone back. I think just seeing the reality of a "slow" runner being much faster than me just sucked. I'm thinking that if they continue to meet at 6pm for these group runs I will definitely have to take the summer off or commit to regular walk breaks. I just can't deal with the heat!
