      I would wait for it to cool off a bit and then increase the distance.

      I would watch the heat, too - if your body is saying it is enough, it is probably enough for now. You could split your distance into two runs, though, if you really feel you need to increase.

      Running in heat is terrible. But I would say if 3 feels like enough might be time to push yourself a wee bit when the weather is better. Like just increase by a 1/4 mile or at a time and just pick one run a week to increase. Listen to your body though with the heat.

      I've been adding 1/4 mile a week until I hit the next mile then coast for a few weeks but like others have said take care in the heat.
