      But you aren't giving up on sports all together right? You can swim, bike, row, walk. Stay active and don't leave us. This is such a great place to stay motivated.

      Kezia. Like Ann said their are many alternatives to running that you might be able to do while your knee heals. I hope you stay on DM and more importantly I hope you are able to keep exercise as part of your daily routine! Good luck!

      Kezia I couldn't run for about 3-4 weeks while I had PT for back muscle strain and ITB. I did core, weights and eliptical to keep active. I hated not being able to run but I had to heal. This site will helo you thru this time to stay focused and continue on the path of health & wellness.

      Thanks you guys! It just stinks because running was my stress relief and I really don't "do" that much else. I need to have ideas of what to do...and whether I should spend the money and get my knee checked out or not. Thanks for the support!

  16. does anyone have a take on whether to listen to music while running...and to bring water along or not? Thanks for any imput. Also, good ways to stay motivated?

      I don't do the music thing when I am running. If I am racing, I prefer to focus on the race situation, tactics, condition, etc. If I am training, I will focus on my pace if a tempo run, or if I am just on a LSD or relaxing run, I use it as my time to focus and relax...

      Water? depends on the length of the run and weather conditions. In the summer, I almost always bring water on anything over 5km because it is so hot and humid here. It is dangerous to NOT drink water regularly in this climate.

      Hey Kezia: music is really just a preference thing, I think. I love to have mine with me while training OR racing. But other times, I'm kind of just in the mood for quiet. Really depends on my mood & if I need the motivation. Water - YES, especially in the summer. You don't realize how thirsty you get until it's too late and you're miserable.

      I feel that music is great IF you have music that has a beat around your run tempo. Otherwise I find that I am slowing myself down or just getting frustrated if it's too fast because I feel out of sync. I never bring water with me, but I definitely need to because it's way better for me... just can't bring myself to actually carry water or get a fuel belt..
