Great job Kendall; I run in Frees, but I took a long time building up to them... I like to walk around in VFFs to strengthen my feet when I'm not running. Definitely stick with what's comfortable when hitting those long runs!

The post made me smile. I found whilst training DM was a great help. I logged my runs and anything I was worried about, good days and bad the motivation on here was amazing. It can be hard when people around you don't run, you tell them you are in training etc but people just say the usual 'i couldn't run'.
Good luck - which marathon are you doing?

Whitelightening, I am quite verbose so most of my posts are a bit long winded! I am doing the Portland, OR Marathon on 10/9/11, my second Portland Marathon and third marathon in all.
Alfred, I've found some interesting things about people that wear sunscreen and D deficiency.
Benjamin, I'm telling you, guys do not have the apparel issues that women have when it comes to running. You just throw on a pair of shorts and maybe shoes, if you're not a minimalist, and there you go! :)

Hey way to get out there despite the rain! Nice 7! O2O was a pretty fun small race although being a "green" marathon it's also very cheap apparently. There were no mats except the one at the finish to tag chip time so I the timing may not be so accurate if one starts at the back. I learned from other runners that restrooms and fluid support was sparse. They also did not close traffic for the event. Definitely have kinks to work out but it was fun. Hopefully they'll fix them all next year.

Thanks ladies! I actually misquoted #1. They said that the first 10 minutes of a run are the hardest and to keep going. Also, the speeding up thing really works especially if you are keeping a modest pace hoping not to run out of steam by the end of a workout. I find it jolts me awake to speed up for a few minutes then settle back into my pace again! Twitter is a great resource for quick tips!

I'm so sorry to hear this news, Kendal : ( so happy to got medical attention when you did. I knew we had brown recluses spiders here, it's very serious if your get bitten by them. Be really careful if you try to run, may be better to wait and see that the tissue is healing first. Keep us posted here. Your in my prayers here!
