The temp warmed up to zero today so I chose to do my long run outside. It had snowed about 4-6" last night but luckily, much of the path had been plowed. However, the sections on the road were pretty messy and the road was too slippery to run in my Newtons so I wore my Pearl Izumi trail shoes which have much better traction. Still my pace was pretty slow in the snow and I took several walk breaks, both forced by conditions and by choice. It was definitely nice to get outside again.
-1C to 0. tights, LS tech, mid zero jersey, Versa jacket, cap, head band. Had scarf and mitts to start. I was concerned about snow getting into my shoes so I rigged up some temporary gaiters with an old pair of socks, and I slipped thin plastic veggie bags over my socks to keep my feet warmer. They worked well.

Nice day for a run. I think a piece of foil blanket will work even better than the veggie bags. Would be interested to know. Anytime the sun is out is a good time to be outdoors. In fact, I'm convinced the reason animals like deer and rabbits react to my headlights the way they do, is they are hoping somehow it's the sun, and daylight again, when it's warm and predators are easy to spot.

Foil blanket might be good too but at least the bags enclose the foot completely because they are a bag and not a flat piece.

Nice run B, what PI trail shoes do you have. There is pair of men on clearance on Running Wearhouse that I have been looking at.

I have the Synchro Seek II and the Peak XC . I like both but the Peak XC are a little lighter/smaller profile. http://www.amazon.com/Pearl-iZUMi-Womens-Peak-Running/dp/B001AG4DDI

Here's a review of them. They really are very lightweight. The Synchro Seeks are a bit more rigged, a little better traction but are also a bit heavier. http://www.sierradescents.com/reviews/shoes/pearl-izumi/peak-xc.html

Great run,Barb. ITS cool that you chose to run outside. I LOVE the verge bag idea. That would really help on those warmer, melty days by keeping the tootsies dry. I will be trying that.

Great run Barb. I've been to K town twice this month. It is cold and icy. Beyond my liking.
