100 degrees with 40% humidity this evening. Had our running and drinking group and they were meeting at Navy Pier. My friend Jenny and I thought we would run down to Navy Pier instead of running an out and back route from the pier. This one was tough. Actually, it was demoralizing as it made me totally question my upcoming race but whatever. I don't deal with heat/humidity well. Stopped a lot for water and took a few walk breaks. Poor Jenny, she hates stopping and walking but I just had to tonight. Walked about a mile after the run to cool down (just couldn't run the last mile) Glad it's over. Easy and short runs for the rest of the week before the R&R half on Sunday.
Splits were:
8:26/9:08/9:21/9:27/9:29/9:21/9:22
Had stomach issues again after this one was done. No clue on the cause - not a lot of dairy yesterday or earlier today. Yuck. Glad this one is in the books.

Those are very good splits in 100 degree weather, Kelly! In that heat, walking breaks are a great idea. Nice mileage and try not to question yourself about the upcoming half!

Kelly--DONT' LET THIS GET TO YOU!! You WILL have a great race on Sunday! The theme for us R&R runners this week should be "adjust, adapt and acclimate". I think we're gonna just have to assume the temps aren't gonna cool off, and make changes. We can do this!! OK, that's my attempt at a pep talk......

With the heat and humidity, that's an awesome pace!!! I don't do very well in heat either Kelly. Somedays I just know it's all in my head. I am so jealous that you're running in the R&R this weekend!!! I almost signed up for it, but didn't think I could take the heat. You're going to do amazing as you always do!!!

Keep your head up! 1 run either tough or easy doesn't matter in the big picture. You got some good aerobic miles in and that is what matters in the long run! I can't imagine trying to race in this weather. Just setting you up for an awesome fall racing season!

way to push through girlie!!! the heat likes to slow us down and make running all the more difficult!!! it was 100 when i ran today too!!! :) you did well.

Stomach issues may just be from the heat...that happens to me too after exhausting runs/races in hot weather. Anyways, don't question yourself for Sunday, you will be fine! Just race smart....it really surprises me how much I can speed up when I start off really slow in the heat.

Amazing pace for someone not feeling it! You got the half marathon--you'll be caught up in all the positive, competitive vibes. Maybe try and relax some until then. Perhaps your stomach has to do with your fiber intake not dairy? Just a thought....

These are tough conditions to run in right now - you did a great job pushing and will be fine on Sunday. Hydrate and fuel for the race. It will be fun!

I think your pace was amazing considering the heat. Try not to beat yourself up too much- you have a nice taper week to restore, regroup and revive the body! You will do great!!!

You're doing awesome Kelly and you are in fantastic shape. Nothing we can do about this H/H but roll with the flow! All we can do is adjust accordingly and do the best we can...Like Mike Ditka "Da Coach" once said, "This too shall pass!"

I just posted this on my wall - but I think I should share it here too:

Kelly - you are an AMAZING athlete, and in the heat & humidity you STILL rocked your run last night. You've so totally got this!

Trust your training, girl. Don't let one run get you down - because you are so conditioned, you rocked that run in horrible conditions. Good job pushing through it! (Can you please get the temps to cool down before I get to town? lol. I can get horrible heat here :D)

Kelly, you are so amazing at exercising and certainly deserve a break once in a while. Consider that your break and focus on your truly outstanding ability to run so well! You are one of my fav DMers to follow! Keep smiling!

I would throw an adult tantrum if I had to run in 100 degree weather. Wonderful job getting this done Kelly! We all know you can run well but sucky runs come with the territory.
