When do you retire running shoes? After X amount of miles? After X amount of months? How the shoe feels?

I was told around 400 miles. Last week I noticed that my legs weren't feeling as great as I liked them to and I realized I'd had my shoes for right around 400 miles. Bought new ones and it's really helped.

Thanks! I am thinking I need new shoes, but I'm not sure if its just the lack of running I did last month or the shoes. I want to keep running when I do my runs, but my legs (mostly my shins and knees) stop me. Is that a big sign I need new shoes?

It depends a lot on the weight of a runner and a runners form had a lot to do with wear on the soles and midsole. I happen to have many different shoes for different work outs so that helps to extend the life. Top runners change after about 300 though.....they pretty much know their stuff!!

Take your shoes into a good running store and have them take a look.
