great Mission Trails Park Fail 11.26 mi 01:29 07:55 pace

Plan: 1.9 mile warmup, 5k speed trial, 4-5 miles wandering Mission Trails Regional Park and finding my way back home.

Reality: 1.9 mile warm up, a fast, but not "time trial" pace, two miles, getting totally disoriented in the park, not noticing when the 5k beep happened (because, in hindsight, it didn't), wandering down a deadend, coming out the other side of the park, and looping the "long way" around the town back home . . . hm.

So, uh, fail on the 5k time (it was my first attempt at using "repeat until distance" in a workout).
And fail on trail running (I thought I was looping along the north side of the park, only to pop out the south side via the shortest trail possible, then just roaming the campground loop waiting for a beep that never came).
And fail at common courtesy (when I popped out of the park a cyclist coming towards me put his hand out for a high five, but I was so disoriented I didn't realize his intent until we'd passed one another - my bad, dude!).

But it was still wicked fun. And my 7.36 mile "cooldown" pace (8:14) nearly bullseyed my target easy pace (8:15), so, huzzah and whatnot.

Didn't exactly go as planned, but a lot of the best runs don't! And you still nailed the most important part, finding your way back home.

Good point, Vern. Getting back to the starting point is something I take for granted all too often. Morey, yeah, we moved last weekend. Loving the weather. Especially when the locals are wandering around in heavy winter coats.
