Didn't make it as a morning run today, but put in a solid 8 at lunchtime. Clocked my fluid loss for the first time. In these conditions (65°-67°, 23% humidity), at this pace, that's apparently 3.48 ounces per mile or .45 ounces per minute. Damn. I need to learn to drink and run. And probably eat. That's my grand plan for 2012; learn to eat more than 300-400 calories during a marathon.

I shoot for 150-200/hr to ensure I don't bonk. So far- it's worked. There are whole studies on how much fluid a body can absorb while running. I think about 15-20oz an hour is the limit, depending on your body.

The average sports drink has 50 calories in 8oz. The most I think I consume at a water station is 4oz. (if I'm lucky) So at least you can count 25 calories for every Gatorade you choose over plain water. I used to pass up fluids on the course but I don't anymore. I just pinch the cup and keep running :) I usually pack 4 gels with me so there's 400 calories right there, but they do make me sick if I do too many.

Drinking and running? That could be dangerous! ;-)
I have to learn a bit more about hydrating myself.
