good Elliptical 1.4 mi 00:20 14:17 pace
Reading The Kite Runner while spending 20 minutes on the elliptical. Not a fan of those machines, but they work my legs like whoa! And don't kill my knees and shoulder, so that's nice.

How do you like that book? I have read about half of it but keep putting it down.

Good workouts! I hate the elliptical but it is really good for working those muscles so I make myself do it! I definitely need to learn to read on one :)

Sam, it makes me read slower than usual, but that's okay. Fair trade, I guess. :)

good 1 mi 00:17 17:00 pace
Reading The Kite Runner while walking up a significant incline (6 on our machine - not sure what that equates to anywhere else). Gonna be sore.

VELO
great 2.3 mi 00:11:00 12.5mph pace
Tough, but rewarding. The gym got new bikes with systems that allow you to select a route and actually "ride through" a city, town, etc. Pretty nifty.

great Cycling intervals 22 mi 00:48 27.5mph pace
I've decided, in order to increase productivity in my reading plan and my exercise regimen, that I can only read for the month of March (plus today) if I'm doing some kind of exercise. So... read more

good Arm workout
Did a small arm workout since the shoulder still isn't 100% today. Trying to go back to a few exercises from PT that strengthened the muscle that's loose in my shoulder. Thinking that mig... read more

Absolutely loving the stationary bike for cross-training. Spent my workout watching What Not to Wear. Don't judge.

great Nature Park 1 mi 00:30 30:00 pace
Useless as far as exercise goes, but relaxing for me and my dog. She's always been fairly "confined" to house life, but now that I'm not working in an office but working remotel... read more

Do any of you listen to audiobooks while you run? Giving this a go soon!

Only have earphones in when on a treadmill too risky "outside"

I think the risk Gavin was referring to regarding earphones outside is that it can make it harder to hear what's going on around you, especially behind you. That can be dangerous, especially if you are running by yourself. I use only one earbud and tuck the other into my bra.
I've found that if I'm listening to audio books I tend to slow down; either the reader's cadence is slow or in focusing on the story, my attention is focused more on the story than my running. I've found music works better for me.4 months ago • Like

I've tried listening to books but I tend to go much slower than with music.

A good trainer should certainly know how to help you avoid aggravating the shoulder and the knee. Good luck finding one!
