With Silvester J. Completely rode with him..
Awesome - one single word to explain... Brutal number of climbs... All the descents were sparsely distributed through climbs such that we felt only climbing and never going down...Needed to do only three things -
2. Spin harder
3. Spin even more harder with high cadence
Well, the numbers can talk more than me. The mapmyride archive given by organizers show 4900 metres of climb. When I used best OEM source method from GPS Visualizer followed by analysis with utrack.crempa.net(which I keep as reference for me since different sources give different values and I wanted to stick to one), it showed 6170 m of elevation gain, over 300 kms..
Route - The best brevet route I had ever done.. Lush green everywhere - All breath taking.. Confused what to see and what not to see...Definitely a route which needs to be done in 3 - 4 days to completely grasp the scenaries.. Was sad I couldn't spend much time enjoying.. There was a ferry ride included in the route - need to cross Kabini @ Perikkallur Kadavu - One of the nice surprises by CBC to include (Ride actual start/end is Lakkidi. I drew the map starting/ending around this river section to have as single log)
Ride - Initial 70 kms in the cool ambience went pretty fast... Dehydration was too much once the sun was out.. Felt humid though it was cool and tree covered.. Once the sun hid itself beyond the mountains, it was back to nice cool breezy ambience... One thing to ponder for organizers - Please put night sections in a sparesely moving trafficky roads and not in dense traffic roads in case of narrower roads - I had a near fall experience since I was completely blinded by light from oncoming Vehicle and couldn't see the pothole in front of me.. Though I didn't fall, my left hand took an impact..
1200 - A part of this route is shared by our "Bliss in the Hills". All I can say is, a nice challenge is awaiting.. Couldn't even think of riding like this for 600+ kms... Need to shed a lot of weight...
I didn't use a speedometer / phone so don't know the ride time, but I am sure it will be atleast 16 hours
