Kick some boootay. I don't run a lot of 5k's and haven't run one 100% healthy in 3 years which is still my PR. I have one next week so it should be interesting.

No photo ops in a 5k!

Good luck!! Sounds like you have a good strategy. The last half mile of a 5K is really hard mentally and physically. And that's why I love 'em.

Based on your description of the course, it doesn't sound like you are doing the Margaritas 5K with the rest of the cool kids. Sad times. But good luck though!

@Larry - I will say I'm planning on skipping breakfast so the photo op is NOT of me puking at the end. :) Gu ONLY a half hour before, thankyouverymuch!

@Susan - no, sorry! I'm doing the Patrick Downey 5k in Salem on Sunday. Part of my running club's series so figured it'd be good for me to do. You're running one too though eh? Good luck!

I am! Trying to break 30 for the first time :)

You got it. According to Larry, if you don't puke you haven't run it hard enough. Be warned. :)

Where are you running Sunday? I'm doing the Cinco De Mayo out of Exeter, my PR is 26:21 and I'm in a similar boat in that I am mid cycle on my first Marathon training (for a trail marathon no less), I'm mentally treating this like a fast tempo run but we shall see what I do on race day especially since I plan on doing 8 or so miles of trails on Saturday. And then next Sunday I have a 10k trail race, somehow these races seem like no big deal when the next long run staring me in the face will be 20 miles.

@Susan, am I one of the cool kids or do I just get to run the race with them?

Please keep up the blog. It is honest and well written. I like people who clearly state a goal. I hate when people get all mealy mouthed when you ask them what they are trying to do. Put it out there. It puts a little pressure on you. And, no one gives a shit if you don't get it. Like guaranteeing a win in sports. No one recalls the ones that where wrong.

I put mine out there. If I crash and burn, we can all share a good laugh at my expense.

One last thing. For the record, I would roll around in the vomit for a 5k PR at this point. No one is offering me that option.

You will kick butt Karen. I cant wait to read about it.
