Note-To-Self: Don't run right after watching a professional track meet on TV. Today was intended to be easy and light as I reach a new weekly mileage PR. The 40's and sunshine were a breath of fresh air while noticing a little extra spring in my stride. A spring? after such a huge week of miles? My questions were not answered but emphatically defined. Started out with an easy opening mile and somewhere in the second mile, it happened, yet again.

I blame Bonnie Tyler's "Holdin' Out For A Hero" coming up on my iPod shuffle because when I heard the quick beat and Tyler singing her wits off, my legs responded in kind. I planned on just going for a breezy run to Osborn and back with not much care about the pace. I tried to tell myself "Stay controlled, stay controlled..." Well, I was controlled AND going fast. My legs should have been hitting the panic button and here they were asking for more of a beating. Went through the 3rd mile in 6:49, probably the easiest 6:49 I've ever ran. The next mile was straight-up ballin' in 6:24. The fifth mile, I slowed down, again in an effort to let up. After a quarter-mile, there I was speeding up again under 7:00 pace. I came through the fifth in 7:03, then sprinted until reaching the house.

After today, I have to wonder, just what are my limits? Have I been selling myself short all these years? (more than likely) I'll end this week over 53 miles and I could've of ran more if I truly wanted. No injuries, no setbacks, just the road and me having a good ol' time. I'm not taking any of this for granted, which is why next week is going to be almost all easy (in theory) with a significant cutback in mileage (hopefully). Knowing I could do what I did this week has given me a huge amounts of confidence and a testament to how much consistency pays off.

Hope everyone had a great weekend and since I don't care for either team in the Super Bowl, I'll say "Go, Team Bud Light!"

Awesome run Justin! Must admit, though not at your speed I share your feelings today and it is a wonderful confidence booster! It is amazing sometimes how much further we can push ourselves beyond what we think.

I think you know what I'm going to say... Keep it consistent, but don't be afraid to have a few easy days. No need to "race" every run.
